Personal Notes

I was oldtimer (1993-2002), Porcospino/porcospino/iridium (ca. 2005-2007), and oldtimer (ca. 2008 -).

It's rather embarrassing to have given one's entire life to pondering the human predicament and to find that in the end one has little more to say than, 'Try to be a little kinder.' --Aldous Huxley

Yesterday trumpy told an audience "what you're seeing and what you're reading is not what's happening.". This reminded me of a Russian goodie told for decades in the Soviet era: A man goes to his doctor. --Dr., I have a problem with my ears... and with my eyes. --Which one is worse? --Oh, doctor, I see

fine with the eyes, and I hear fine with the ears. But ... what my eyes see is not what my ears hear. <-- The reference is to the disconnect between Soviet era propaganda and the realities that citizens saw every day. This sort of bleak, dark humor does not seem so foreign to US people, anymore.

An aged man is but a paltry thing, / A tattered coat upon a stick, unless / Soul clap its hands and sing, and louder sing / For every tatter in its mortal dress.

Well, all the time ya ... spend tryin' ta get back what's been took from ya, more is goin' out th' door. After a while ya just have to try to git a tourniquet on it. --"No Country for Old Men", Uncle Ellis
